Medical science students need to be able to identify immature and mature blood cells. Traditionally this is learnt in practical laboratory classes examining blood smears and bone marrow preparations, using binocular light microscopes. The opportunity to review and practise identification of the blood cells has been generally limited to those occasions when access to the teaching laboratories is available. Increasing use of the teaching laboratories has restricted opportunities for revision.
