Histotechniques is a second year subject taught into the Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology) program. The subject comprises both theoretical and practical aspects of tissue preparation for diagnostic pathology laboratories. In an attempt to encourage students to become more self reliant and self motivated, a single assessment item for tissue type recognition was developed. The practical sessions for the subject consist of a thirty slide project in which students embed, cut stain and mount tissues.
